Peace in the Middle East, in Ukraine, in Myanmar, in Nigeria, and Sudan. During the Angelus prayer, the Pope paused to comment on two particularly painful events for the Christian community.

The first was in Nigeria, where around 200 people were brutally massacred at a Catholic mission that was sheltering internally displaced persons.

POPE LEO XIV
I pray that security, justice and peace prevail in Nigeria, a beloved country that has suffered various forms of violence. I pray in particular for the rural Christian communities in the state of Benue, who have unceasingly been victims of violence.

The Pope also focused much of his speech on the crisis in Sudan, another country plagued by war and constant instability.

POPE LEO XIV
I was saddened to receive the news of the death of Father Luke Jumu, parish priest of El Fasher, who was a victim of a recent bombing. I offer the assurance of my prayers for him and all the victims, and I renew my appeal to warring parties to stop the violence, protect civilians and engage in dialogue for peace.

This was the last public event on Sunday. The Pope closed out the week, in which he dedicated a good bit of time to the pilgrims who traveled to Rome for the Jubilee.
